I went to a panel discussion last night at SVA, besides the terribly uncomfortable seating it was a good talk. It was put on by CCNY (the camera club of new york) for their current show, Help Me. I saw the show a couple of weeks ago; it displays found photographs from the collection of Gillian McCain. The panel consisted of Luc Sante, WM Hunt, Leslie Frank, and Megan Cump. The panelists discussed why they collect, how they display them, what the images mean to them, and the relation to “non-vernacular” images. I’m a huge fan of found imagery and using it in my own work. Feeling a bit under the weather these days so I’ll keep it short. Below is the link to the exhibition page as well as a post from the NY Times’ Lens blog about Santa…yup, Santa! I’ve been scribbling away at holiday cards so the whole “season” is on my mind.

I have a thing about old photos; I love them. I’ll be uploading the project I’ve been working on and still am The Parkhurst Slides soon. In the meantime this is a photograph I found at a flea market in Paris. It’s a bad scan but I still think its great. The original is a little blurry as well. I love the idea of the putting a story together to fit the image or using it as inspiration for later work.
